Moving down one exponent divides by the base. For base 3, the values go from 9 to 3 to 1.

The value at exponent zero keeps that pattern intact. For every nonzero base aa:

a0=1a^0=1

02Zero must be the exponent#

Zero must be the exponent. In 030^3, zero is the base: three factors of zero give zero. In 303^0, the nonzero base has exponent zero, giving 1.

The condition matters. This rule does not assign a value to 000^0. Keep the nonzero-base condition whenever you use it.
